Groupe ADP’s ambition for Paris-Orly is to be a pioneer in decarbonization for all ground operations by 2030

Groupe ADP is strengthening its cooperation with Paris-Saclay Agglomeration Community to develop synergies in innovation and research, especially to meet the challenges of decarbonization, by relying on the University research and development ecosystem of Paris-Saclay.

Paris-Orly Airport is a springboard for the economic development and attractiveness of the Paris-Saclay agglomeration, thanks to its national and international connectivity.

Fully integrated into its urban area, Groupe ADP’s ambition for Paris-Orly is to pioneer decarbonization, with a very ambitious objective of zero net emissions for all ground operations by 2030.

The merger between Groupe ADP and Paris-Saclay Agglomeration Community is designed to give rise to concrete innovation projects:

– In terms of decarbonization and transformation of airport operations: carbon footprint, waste treatment, new mobility and access, new energies, biodiversity, new building materials, etc.

– These can be tested directly in real-life situations at the airport or at its future “Green Lab” open innovation space, which will open in the second quarter of 2024. This physical space, located in the heart of the airport, will be a hub of innovation and a meeting place for innovators. It will be a real technological showroom and a place to accelerate projects by startups, young companies, and researchers; It will be open to passengers and the entire airport ecosystem.

The first concrete achievement of this newly strengthened partnership will be a call for projects from the entire Paris-Saclay innovation community, launched in the first quarter of 2023 – gathering high schools and Universities, research and development laboratories, startups, and young companies – to feed the “Green Lab” project.
The Paris-Saclay Agglomeration Community is associated with this entire process:

– The Systematic competitiveness cluster, a European Deep Tech cluster, brings together and leads a community of nearly 900 member companies, including nearly 600 startups, SMEs and ETIs, 140 major groups, 140 academics, and a college of some 20 local authorities.

– The French Tech Paris Saclay association is a community of startups in the Paris-Saclay region.

“Strengthening our territorial links and cooperation with the Paris-Saclay Agglomeration Community should be a lever for innovation and attractiveness for the entire southwestern Paris-Ile-de-France region. To support its environmental transformation, Paris-Orly Airport is fortunate to be able to count on a neighboring ecosystem of innovation and research that is unique in the world. This new partnership will enable us to identify and deploy concrete innovation projects to meet the challenges of transforming our airport hubs, particularly in decarbonization,” said Edward Arkwright, Deputy CEO of Groupe ADP.

“Paris-Orly Airport is a major national site that provides a structure for our region. Therefore, anything that helps optimize the integration of the airport into its environment is beneficial. This agreement, therefore, commits us both to a cooperation that will be fruitful in every respect,” stated GrĂ©goire de Lasteyrie, Chairman of the Paris-Saclay conurbation.
